Area Boys Roundup: Tonganoxie boys fall flat against Lansing, 70-59

Mill Valley pounds Basehor-Linwood

? Tonganoxie came out strong, outscoring Lansing in the first quarter, but the Chieftains couldn’t overcome a deadly second half and lost, 70-59, in the first round of Class 4A sub-state.

“The third quarter was probably our killer quarter,” said Tonganoxie coach David Walker, pointing to a nine-point difference. “They shot the ball pretty well.”

Shane Howard led Tonganoxie (4-17) with 18 points, and Jacob Walker had 11. Lansing’s David Jackson scored 17 points; Hosea Morgan and Matt Bunce each added 12.

Walker said one positive from the season was that several young players gained experience.

“Hopefully that will lead into next year,” he said.

Lansing will face Jefferson West Thursday.
