Mother to Mother is a nonprofit organization that promotes friendships between mothers in Douglas County. New mothers are paired up with volunteer mothers who provide companionship and advice. Mother to Mother workers match pairs based on personalities and parenting styles.

The organization also needs volunteers to work at the group’s office two to three hours a week to do office tasks. Scheduling must be between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Contact Diggs or e-mail the organization at mtm@mother2mother.org.

The Strategic Learning Center received 10 volunteers to tutor beginning reading. The center needs help with its May fund-raising event, “Run in the Sun.” Five volunteers are needed to promote the event and raise money. To volunteer, contact Rose Foster at 331-3236, or rtfoster@smarttogether.org.

Immediate volunteer needs

• Families Together needs 40 volunteers to supervise children whose parents are attending a daylong workshop. Children range in age from infants to teens, and some have disabilities. The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 12 at the Topeka Holidome. Training is provided, and volunteers must be 16 or older. • Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas needs volunteers to staff its call center. Volunteers answer hot line calls each Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteer training will be March 11-13 at the United Way Center, 2518 Ridge Court.
