George T. Thomas

Mass of Christian burial services for George T. Thomas, 93, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 13, 1910, in Louisburg, the son of Asa G. and Mame (Legner) Thomas.

Mr. Thomas drove a Continental Trailways bus for 40 years. He often drove for Kansas University students, including geology classes on rock hunting trips and the baseball and men’s basketball teams. He also drove athletic teams for Lawrence High School.

He married Mary Huston on April 23, 1933, in Louisburg. She died on Sept. 13, 2002. A granddaughter also died earlier.

Survivors include a son, Mike, Spring Hill; two daughters, Rosemary Crouch, Lakewood, Colo. and Pat Wiggins, Maquoketa, Iowa; two brothers, Fred, Loveland, Colo., and Edwin, Louisburg; a sister, Catherine Kirby, Grand Junction, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of the funeral home.
