Crown Hole-in-One: John Crown of Lawrence used a five-wood to ace the par-three 160-yard No. 7 hole at Alvamar Golf Course last Thursday. Witnesses were Bob Dark, Erv Hodges, Don Sneegas and Eben Farley.

  • Extreme Tryouts: Topeka Extreme, a U-13 girls soccer team, will hold tryouts at 6 p.m. June 18, June 23 and July 9. For information, call Terry Denker at (785) 273-9162.

  • Alvamar Ace: Kyle Stevens used an eight-iron for a hole-in-one last Saturday at Alvamar Country Club’s par-three, 162-yard No. 11 hole. Witnesses were Gerald Hannah, Mark Willoughby and George Murray.

  • Legends Win Three: Lawrence Legends U-18 softball won three games in a USSSA qualifier at Johnson County AC. Felicia Freeman won one game and saved two others. Jennifer Narcomey led the Legends with five hits.

  • Riley Runs Seventh: Steve Riley of Lawrence finished seventh overall in the Full Moon Kidney Klassic 5K last Friday in Tulsa, Okla. Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the men’s ages 70-74 division. Heitzman also won his age group in the Amy Thompson 8K Run Memorial Day in Kansas City, Mo. In that race, Lawrence’s Diane Waltho was second in her age group and Dee Boeck third.

  • Conroy Scorches Alvamar: Randy Conroy shot a five-under-par 67 last Saturday at Alvamar to win the weekly Jayhawk Golf Club tournament. It was the lowest score recorded in the 10 years of JGC competition. Van Reichert was runner-up with a 76. Kirk Schneider shot 77. In gross, Ken Deering carded a 69, two strokes ahead of Chris Conroy and James Sandage.

  • Goforth Ace: Barb Goforth used a seven-iron for a hole-in-one Sunday on the 110-yard, No. 8 hole at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Jerry Goforth, Bob Watkins and Mary Watkins.

  • Phenix U-12 Champs: Lawrence Phenix U-12 softball won the Field of Dreams Tournament last weekend with a 6-0 record to earn a berth in the AFA Nationals. Team members are Callie Craig, Cassie Potter, Krystal Bateson, Kalli McClure, Tamalei Good, Jori Graf, Kylie Waite, Theresa Harper, Brittany Murphy, Tracie Weege and Natalie Reschke. Coaches are Jay Rusk, Jamie Rusk, Trenda Reschke and Brad Graf.

  • Phenix U-10 Second: Lawrence Phenix U-10 softball finished second in a qualifier in Overland Park and earned a berth in the USSSA World Series. Team members are Heather Karlin, Kasey Waite, Jamie Jarrett, Mikela Scott, Kelsey Broadwell, Joselynn Dean, Morgan Drinnon, Kaylee Yates, Alika Buttermore, Paige Rothwell, Audrey Lamborn, Emily Newman and Kyla Good. Coaches are Nikki Potter, Terri Broadwell and Kevin Waite.

  • Wilson Fast in Iowa: Dick Wilson of Lawrence won the over-70 age group by nearly four minutes in the Dam to Dam 20K last Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Wilson’s time of 1:27:38 was a race age-group record by about 15 minutes.

  • Monday Runs: Group runs leave Francis Sports in downtown Lawrence at 7 p.m. every Monday. Smaller groups may break off based on time and distance. For information, call Tim O’Donnell at 843-4191.

  • Phenix U-16 Champs: Lawrence Phenix U-16 softball went 6-0 and won a USSSA national qualifier tournament Sunday in Overland Park. Team members are Rachel Amyx, Amy Bullerman, Lacey Burnett, Kelsey Epperson, Alissa Hamilton, Amanda Hughes, Whitney Juneau, Hannah Miller, Kayla Moyer and Jacqueline Pyle. Coaches are Wiley Burnett, Eric Epperson and Ted Juneau.
  • Ladyhawks Third: Lawrence Ladyhawks U-12 basketball placed third last weekend at the Leavenworth MAYB tournament. Team members are Amber Beierly, Jodie Cochrane, Tricia Dunham, Lacey Elmore, Jenny Gwaltney, Sarah Johnson, Megan Klingler, Rachael Klingler and Kate Tucker. This coach is Anthony Lyles.

  • Volleyball Openings: The city still taking late registrations for its summer adult indoor and sand court volleyball leagues. Women’s and coed leagues are offered at power and recreation levels. For information, call 832-7922.

  • Bike Race Tonight: Registration for today’s 7 p.m. Cycle Works Twilight Bike Race will be at 6:30 p.m. at the south end of Haskell Indian Nations University. Adults and children will compete around a .5-mile loop.

  • Schwartz Hole-in-One: Robert Schwartz of Lawrence used a four-iron to ace the par-three, 153-yard No. 8 hole Wednesday at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Norm Luckeroth and Ray Wilson.

  • Kufeldt Ace: Kevin Kufeldt of Lawrence used a pitching wedge to record a hole-in-one Saturday on the 118-yard No. 6 hole at the Orchards. Witnesses were Matt Smith and Tony Pontius.
  • Strikers Meeting: Lawrence Strikers girls premier soccer will hold a meeting for interested players and parents at 7 p.m. June 19 at the public library. Tryouts will June 16 and 18 — at 5 p.m. for girls born before Aug. 1, 1991, and 6:30 p.m. for high school age at Free State High.
  • Chamberlin wins: Chase Chamberlin, a student at Central Junior High, won the 12-13 age group division of the Optimist International Junior golf tournament Monday at Eagle Bend with a score of 76. He advances to the state tournament June 17 in Salina.
