Chicago Board of Trade

Soybean and corn futures edged lower Tuesday on the Chicago Board of Trade, pressured by improving crop prospects. Wheat futures advanced.

Soybeans moved lower amid generally bearish sentiments. Besides the strengthening crop picture, wet weather in the Midwest and technical signals pushed prices downward.

Corn slid in relatively quiet trading. An absence of fresh news kept buyers largely on the sidelines.

Wheat stayed mostly steady in extremely quiet trading.

Wheat for July delivery rose 3/4 cent to $3.19 1/2 a bushel; July corn fell 1 1/2 cent to $2.40 a bushel; July oats rose 3 cents to $1.45 3/4 a bushel; July soybeans fell 2 1/4 cents to $6.10 1/4 a bushel.

Beef and pork futures declined on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

July live cattle fell .60 cent to 71.85 cents a pound; August feeder cattle fell .85 cent to 85.82 cents a pound; July lean hogs fell .02 cent to 67.50 cents a pound; July pork bellies fell 1.33 cent to 94.87 cents a pound.
