The Lone Star 4-H Club met July 13 for the annual club tour. Members visited the Flory dairy farm and viewed a variety of projects at the Metsker, Queen, Berg and Dilling homes.

The Jennings family played host to a potluck picnic and minifair after the tour. Members displayed projects and received a small prize for participation.

Members were reminded about the Douglas County Free Fair, concession stand assignments and Kansas State Fair. Members were asked to donate garden produce or a fruit pie to the fair concession stand.

The next meeting will be Aug. 11 at the Berg home. Donations of disposable diapers for Hannah’s House will be collected.

  • Crackerjacks 4-H Club met July 20. The meeting started with a club tour. Members showed their projects at the Swearngin, Wise and Ottensmeier homes. At each home, they could enter their name for a drawing for a pair of Royals tickets.

The club meeting was at the Oskaloosa park. President Audrey Deeken called the meeting to order. Members said the flag salute, pledge and motto. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite summer activities.

Tiffany Kramer, secretary, read the June minutes. Kylie Campbell, junior treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report. Morgan Wise led the club in singing.

Susie Deeken announced that each family should bring one pie Aug. 4 to the Jefferson County Fair. Fair setup is Aug. 2, and cleanup is Aug. 8. The club will work at the fair concession stand from 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Aug. 7.

Record books are due to community leaders by Aug. 20.

The banner committee described the banner design and told club members it was almost complete. Michala Karn and Jeni Newman gave pop talks. Eric Deeken gave a talk on archery. The exchange students shared tales from their stay in Chicago. Danae Williams won the drawing for the Royals tickets.

The club’s next meeting is Aug. 13.
