Who’s who of Kansans to attend dedication

Among the Kansas VIPs attending the Dole Institute dedication are:

Former members of the Kansas federal delegation

Dan Glickman, a Democrat, represented the Wichita area in Congress, secretary of agriculture under Clinton, now with Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, director of Institute for Politics.

Republican Larry Winn Jr. preceded Jan Myers representing the Kansas City area in the House of Representatives.

Democrat Jim Slattery, represented the Topeka-Lawrence area in the House. He now practices law in Washington, D.C.

Republican Jan Myers formerly represented the Kansas City area in the House.

Republican Dick Nichols briefly represented central/ southeast Kansas in the House.

Republican Sheila Frahm served briefly in the U.S. Senate, replacing Dole, before being defeated by current U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback.

Former statewide elected officials

Gov. Bill Avery, a Republican, has long memory of things political in Kansas.

Gov. Bill Graves. Dole resigned from the Senate while Graves wasgovernor. He had to deal with the replacement issue. He also was responsible for recommending state contributions for construction of the Dole Institute.

Former lieutenant governors Gary Sherrer, Jack Walker and Shelby Smith.

Other politicians and officials

Rick Harman, unsuccessfully ran for governor in the 1960s. He is a Republican from the Kansas City area.

Republican Robert Talkington of Iola is a former Kansas Senate president and member of the Kansas Board of Regents.

Republican Wendell Lady of Johnson County is a former Kansas House speaker. He also ran unsuccessfully for governor.

Former Kansas City Mayor Richard Berkley.

Richard Rodgers of Topeka is a former president of the Kansas Senate and a federal judge.

John Lundstrom, Lawrence, is also a federal judge.
