Scouting news

Venture Crew 2691, chartered to Lawrence Wesleyan Church, had its annual high adventure trek June 22-28 at Elkhorn High Adventure Base in Colorado. The crew conducted a trek of 50 miles in four days at elevations from 7,800 feet to 11,500 feet. They practiced land navigation, wilderness skills and “Leave no Trace” camping. Scouts who attended were Tristan Wagner, Will Sharp, Wes Cook, Josh Spradlin, Thomas Fulbright, Cameron Hershiser, Wes Hinkle and Pete Tuttle. Adults who attended were Glen Sharp, Herb Tuttle and Bob Anderson.

  • Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to West Side Presbyterian Church, took part in high-adventure camping in Colorado. The group spent a week in North Park and Cache La Poudre River Canyon areas. They went backpacking, fishing, hiking and white-water rafting. Scouts who attended were Dan Ohlemeier, Michael Flavin, Bryant Maygers, Andrew Sigler, Logan Marienau and Grady Walker. They were accompanied by Dan Affalter Sr., Dan Affalter Jr., Jerry Ohlemeier, Pat Flavin, Scott Anderson and Dennis Maygers.

The troop had a Court of Honor June 30 at the church. These boys received merit badges or other awards: Scott Ollila, Jordan Gouge, Logan Marienau, Matthew Avila, Bryce Baringer, Dan Ohlemeier, Grady Walker, Bryant Denning and Josh Gore. Adam Meyers advanced to Tenderfoot. Brian Cain, Jacob Christilles and Kevin Cottrell advanced to Second Class. Keifer Gibler and Wolfgang Johanning advanced to First Class, while Grady Walker advanced to Life.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, had a “roundup” campfire June 21 at the residence of Rod Zinn in rural Douglas County. The event included an educational campfire, wiener roast, games, songs and ceremonies. Scouts who were present were Austin Garner, Dakota Zinn, Jamie Braden, Spencer Wilson, Christopher Sloan, Johnathan Roberts, Patrick Shields, Kelly Dunaway, William Gibson and Megan Roberts. Cory Church attended as a guest.

Adults who attended were Scott Braden, Cammie Braden, Margot Cameron, Rod Zinn, Harold Aiken, Gerie Aiken, Kim Zinn, Bob Garner, Carolyn Church, Ed Church, Joan Grosdidier-Shields, Joe Hickock, Kim Davis-Aldridge, Stephen Roberts, Judy Roberts and Charline Hickock.
