For sale: Ousted AD’s Jayhawk gear

If you’re in the market for some “barely used” Jayhawk gear and memorabilia at garage-sale prices, you’ll want to swing by 4316 Wimbledon Drive sometime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. today.

That’s Al Bohl’s house. The ousted Kansas University athletic director and his wife, Sherry, are having a garage sale that, according to their classified ad in the Journal-World , features “LOTS of barely used Jayhawk clothing & mementos.”

“We have a lot of stuff to get rid of — I don’t want that to sound negative, it’s just that we’re not going to need it where we’re going,” Bohl said Tuesday.

He said the booty included stones engraved with Jayhawks, Jayhawk books, Jayhawk pins, Jayhawk shirts and a boatload of Jayhawk hats.

“As athletic director, you get invited to events — golf tournaments and things — and at every one of them, it seems, they give you a hat,” Bohl said.

He said he and his wife decided to have the garage sale today — an off day for most garage sale vendors and shoppers — in hopes of drawing a crowd more manageable than might appear on Friday or Saturday, which are big garage sale days.

“I can’t say that it worked,” he said. “We’ve had people coming by all day wanting to look at stuff.”

The Bohls are moving to St. Augustine, Fla., where Sherry Bohl has accepted a job as a school principal.

Bohl, fired by KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway on April 9 after months of rumor and speculation, said he still was “analyzing” his employment options.
