Torre: Trammell’s days as Yankee likely over

? New York Yankees manager Joe Torre said Tuesday that missing outfielder Bubba Trammell might have played his last game in pinstripes.

“That would be my guess,” Torre said. “But who knows?”

Trammell was placed on the restricted list Monday, one day after he unexpectedly left the club for unspecified personal reasons.

“I wish I could tell you something, but I know nothing more than I did the first day,” Torre said before Tuesday’s game against Baltimore. “My concern is for his health and for his family’s health.”

Trammell was supposed to start in left field against the Mets Sunday night. But before the game, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman received a call from Trammell’s agent, Ed Hardison, saying the player would not be at Yankee Stadium.

Torre still has not spoken with Trammell, but he said general manager Brian Cashman spoke with Hardison Tuesday.

Asked if he thought he would ever manage Trammell as a Yankee again, Torre said: “Probably in the immediate future, yes, it would be a surprise if I did.”
