Roy William Lambert

? Services for Roy William Lambert, 80, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mr. Lambert died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Wellsville, the son of Harvey J. and Fannie Ellen (Ramey) Lambert. He attended Salem Hill Country School, south of Wellsville, through eighth grade. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, living in Wellsville and Ottawa.

Mr. Lambert was a radio operator in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He was in the reserves from 1945 to 1986, stationed in Olathe and later at Richards-Gebaur in Kansas City, Mo. He attained the rank of chief master sergeant and received several awards, including Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He worked a milk route after the war, then owned and operated Sinclair Service Station in Ottawa. He also repaired appliances for Crites Appliance in Ottawa and owned and operated Lambert Appliance Repair in Mission for 20 years before he retired in 1986. He attended North Baptist Church in Ottawa, was a commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 5901 in Ottawa, 2nd District Commander, commander of V.F.W. Memorial Post No. 9113 in Wellsville and member of 442nd Military Troop Carrier Wing.

He married Betty Ilene McGee on Aug. 23, 1941, in Wellsville. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Dixie Farrell, Lawrence, Shirley Glass, Peoria, Ill., and Patty Bunch, Ottawa; a brother, Harvey Jr., Olathe; a sister, Evelyn Starbuck, Topeka; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday until the service hour at the mortuary, where family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to V.F.W. Memorial Post No. 5901 or the church of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
