Race Winner: Lawrence’s Dee Boeck won the women’s ages 50-54 division of the Topeka to Auburn half-marathon Saturday in a time of 1:51:06. Two Lawrence runners earned second places — Matt Riley in the U-19 male division and Steve Riley in the ages 45-49 group. Age-group third-place finishes were recorded by Ross McDaniel and Becky McClure.

  • Second Placer: Jennifer Hornbaker of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy finished second in the all-around at a meet in Wichita. Hornbaker competed in age 15 Level 9 competition. Other LGA competitors at the meet were Mallory West, Kara Kellison and Jen Pogge. All four also participated in a meet last weekend in Plano, Texas.
  • LYABA Top Averages: Robert Wagner posted the highest boys average (136) and Heather Goodlett the highest girls average (104) in the U-11 division during the Lawrence Young American Bowling Alliance fall-winter season. In the ages 12-21 divisions, high averages were posted by Todd Hadl (186) and Dacia Sprow (165).
  • Bowers Earns Second: Kelcy Bowers placed second in the all-around to lead Lawrence Gymnastics Academy in Level 6 competition at the Diamond Invitational. Teammate Rachel Schaffer was fifth in the all-around. Other competitors were Alexis Gonzales, Dianna Torgerson, Jennifer Hughes, Arden Leland and Kacey Clements.
  • Ladyhawks Champs: Lawrence Ladyhawks U-14 basketball team won the MAYB tournament last weekend in Topeka. Team members are Jenna Brantley, Kelsey Harrison, Allie Hock, Lauren Kimball, Kayley Lane, Cassie Potter, Jessica Scott, Hannah Somers and Jenica Wessels.

  • LJWC Gold Medalists: Caleb D’Armond, Dale Roussel, Ammon Austin and Adrian Tubbs of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned gold medals at Sunday’s Gardner Invitational. Second places were garnered by Brianna Hayes, Zechariah Warren, Seth Winchester, Misty Hayes, Jeremiah Kerr, Austin Anderson, Corey Vadnois and Carissa Nott. Thirds went to Dylan Housworth, Desiree Housworth, Sean Tubbs, Tony Wheeler and Joey Dewey.
  • JKWC Gold Medalists: Alex Hardman, Kenny Flanders, Zack Toelkes, Chris Coons and Ben Abernathy of the Jayhawk Kids Wrestling Club captured first places at Sunday’s Gardner Invitational. Silver medals were earned by Cole Deo, Caleb Gress and Emma Mercer. Saturday at the Wamego Invitational, Toelkes, Brandon Goodwin and Scott Deo posted runner-up finishes.
