An administrator of a museum in Leavenworth County starts next month as director of the Watkins Community Museum of History in downtown Lawrence.

Rebecca Phipps, curator and assistant director of the Carroll Mansion Museum in Leavenworth, is expected to begin work Feb. 18 as the top administrator for the museum at 1047 Mass.

Phipps was among nine applicants for the job left vacant since August 2001, when longtime director Steve Jansen was demoted to historian as the museum struggled with a budget deficit.
