District to work with Bert Nash in counseling program

The board will be asked to sign off on a deal with Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center to improve services in district schools. Bert Nash will receive $795,697 from a federal grant to support the Working to Recognize Alternative Possibilities counseling program in schools.

Background

The district’s three-year federal grant is part of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative. The grant provides about $2.8 million this year to develop educational, mental health, social service, law enforcement and juvenile justice programs that improve behavior of children.
