Top 25 Men: No. 3 Pitt wins at WVU

? With a strong fan following making the trip 70 miles to the south, No. 3 Pittsburgh had balanced scoring and shot 63 percent from the field in an 80-61 victory at West Virginia on Tuesday night.

The Panthers (13-1, 3-0 Big East) have consecutive wins at West Virginia for the first time since 1934 and 1935. They had just one day to practice following Sunday’s win at Rutgers.

“This is a tough place to play,” Pitt coach Ben Howland said. “I was very concerned about this game. To win back-to-back seasons here is really exciting.”

No. 6 Connecticut 83, Virginia Tech 65

Hartford, Conn. — Ben Gordon scored 24 points and Emeka Okafor had 19 for the Huskies (11-1, 2-0 Big East), who shot 69 percent from the field in the second half.

No. 10 Notre Dame 68, Rutgers 57

South Bend, Ind. — Matt Carroll scored 25 points, Chris Thomas had 19 and the Irish made all but one of their 23 free throws. Herve Lamizana had 14 points and eight rebounds for Rutgers (8-6, 0-2 Big East).

No. 16 Kentucky 74, Vanderbilt 52

Nashville, Tenn. — Gerald Fitch scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as the Wildcats (12-3, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) rallied from a 14-point deficit for their sixth straight victory.

No. 21 Marquette 85, Tulane 73

New Orleans — Dwyane Wade scored 35 points to lead the Golden Eagles (11-3, 3-1 Conference USA), who shot 59 percent from the field and finished with a 36-28 rebound edge.
