Praeger to appear on ‘On the Record’

Kansas Insurance Commissioner-elect Sandy Praeger and Wichita physician Doren Fredrickson will discuss Kansas’ health care crisis on this week’s edition of “On the Record,” which airs at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on KTWU Channel 11.

The growing number of uninsured Kansans and the spiraling cost of medical care are among the issues to be addressed by Praeger, who takes office Monday, and Fredrickson, an associate professor at the Wichita branch of Kansas University Medical Center and an officer with the Sedgwick County Health Department.

Praeger, a Republican, lives in Lawrence, where she was elected to the Kansas House in 1990 and the Senate in 1992. She’s giving up her seat to become insurance commissioner.

Three boys suspended in smoke-bomb episodes

Three Central Junior High School students were suspended Friday on suspicion of igniting smoke bombs on school property.

Julie Boyle, the district’s communications director, said the eighth-graders were suspended for 10 days.

The boys were implicated in smoke-bomb incidents that occurred after school Tuesday and during school Thursday at the school, 1400 Mass., she said.

No one was injured. Reports were filed with the Lawrence Police Department, Boyle said.
