KU employee gets grant to study Japanese art

The director of Kansas University’s Japan program has received a $40,000 grant to study Japanese Buddhist art and architecture.

Patricia Graham, who coordinates trips to Japan for undergraduate students, received the grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

She is studying traditions in Japanese visual culture. Graham hopes to find connections between modern Japanese arts and older Japanese Buddhist arts.

The NEH grant finances 12 months of study, which Graham plans to spread over the next two years to maintain her half-time position at KU.
