Baldwin ? The Kansas City Ward High girls basketball team couldn’t keep Baldwin from its 15th straight victory.

The Bulldogs defeated the Cyclones, 69-56, Friday.

After the Bulldogs (18-1) mustered an 8-0 run in the middle of the first quarter, the game had all the makings of a blowout.

But the Cyclones (12-7) outscored the Bulldogs, 15-11, in the second quarter, giving Baldwin a slim three-point lead at halftime.

The Bulldogs finally created some space, scoring 18 points in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth.

“Our first half was not very good, so we used the third quarter to get back into it and the fourth quarter to finish them off,” Baldwin junior Emily Brown said.

Brown led the Bulldogs with 20 points and added three blocks. Senior Anna Skaggs finished with 17 points, and senior Katie Martin added 13.

Ward senior Ellen Stump scored a team-high 16 points before fouling out late.

Sophomore Clare Stump added 11, including three three-pointers.

The Bulldogs will play Friday night at Louisburg, and a win would give Baldwin the Frontier League championship.

“I’m very excited where we’re at right now,” Baldwin coach Eric Toot said. “We have a very tough sub-state division, but we’re one of the tough teams. Our concern right now is Friday night.”

Regardless of Friday’s outcome, the Bulldogs will play host Tuesday to Kansas City Piper in sub-state.
