Grocery store worker helps catch suspect

An employee of Checkers, 2300 La., helped catch a man who allegedly took a $1,300 stereo from a nearby business, according to a police report.

The employee, Charles N. Hart, was outside the store with a co-worker smoking a cigarette about 1:40 a.m. Friday when he heard broken glass and saw a man go into University Audio, 2319 La.

He said he called for police and ran after the man as he left the store. Police arrived as the man was getting in the car.

“I flagged him and pointed right at the guy,” Hart said. “They got him. It was great.”

A 22-year-old Lecompton man was charged with burglary, theft and criminal damage.
