Area Boys: K.C. Piper pulls away from Tongie

? Except for senior Joe Calovich, who scored 14 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, Tonganoxie seemed to run out of steam Tuesday night in a 67-54 loss to Kansas City Piper.

“We didn’t execute,” THS coach David Walker said.

The Chieftains (4-11) led 37-36 at the end of the third quarter, but were outscored 31-17 in the final eight minutes.

Walker said that his team played well for the majority of the night but that the fourth quarter became its “band aid.”

“It’s a dogfight every night,” he said. “You’ve just got to be ready to play.”
