Buffaloes shot lights out in earlier win at Kansas

? Few basketball teams win at home when the visiting team shoots nearly 60 percent.

That was the case for Kansas University a little more than two weeks ago when Colorado came to Allen Fieldhouse, shot 58.7 percent and spilled the Jayhawks, 71-50.

“I think we can do a better job against them than we did the last time,” KU coach Marian Washington said. “We’re going to play better defense because that is where it starts.”

Tipoff will be 8:05 tonight CST in the Coors Events Center.

Particularly effective against the Jayhawks in the first meeting was junior guard Kate Fagan who drilled six of eight three-point attempts on the way to a game-high 22 points.

“There was a period early in the first game where I thought we did a pretty good job,” Washington said, “but you can’t turn the ball over as many times as we did.”

Kansas actually turned the ball over fewer times than Colorado in the Jan. 18 meeting in Lawrence. Colorado was guilty of 22 giveaways to KU’s 17. Still, the Jayhawks lead the league in turnovers while ranking dead last in assists.

“Colorado is coming off a loss, so we know it is going to be a tough battle,” Washington said.

Kansas (9-10, 2-6) is also coming off a defeat — Saturday’s 84-57 hammering by Texas Tech in Allen Fieldhouse. That loss snapped the Jayhawks’ two-game win streak.

Kansas faces another potentially rough road game Saturday at Texas (3 p.m. in Austin, Texas). The Jayhawks’ next home game is Feb. 15 against Missouri (1 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse). The KU-Mizzou showdown will be televised live on Fox Sports.
