Cobler Consulting and Mize, Houser & Co., Professional Assn. have merged their operations. They operate as Mize, Houser & Co., Professional Assn. Cobler Consulting will continue to serve franchises of McDonald’s as a division of Mize, Houser. The combined firm will include 160 employees. Mize, Houser is based in Topeka, but operates an office in Lawrence.

Melanie Cohavi is a new certified massage therapist and reflexologist for Dr. Sue Mulcahey, Lawrence. She is experienced in therapeutic, deep tissue, Swedish and pregnancy massage. She also is trained in sports injury rehabilitation.

Cohavi is a Lawrence native who graduated in 1999 from Reidman International College for Complimentary Medicine in Israel. She has worked as a massage therapist for the past four years in Israel before returning to Lawrence last October.

She is working in the chiropractic office of Mulcahey, 2721 W. Sixth St.

Frieden, Haynes and Forbes has named Clint Patty, Topeka, a partner at the Topeka-based law firm. Patty is a graduate of Butler County Community College, Kansas University and Washburn University’s School of Law. He joined Frieden, Haynes & Forbes in 1998 and has practiced in the areas of civil litigation, business, administrative and labor law.

C&G Auto Sales and Rentals, a used car dealer in Lawrence, announces that Mikel Meier recently completed training with Northland Independent Auto Dealers. C&G Auto Sales, 308 E. 23rd St., is now authorized to offer customers automobile rentals on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Michael McGrew, Lawrence, is serving as the regional vice president for the National Association of Realtors in 2003. McGrew represents Region IX, which includes Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

McGrew, a Realtor for 20 years, is vice chairman of Coldwell Banker McGrew Real Estate in Lawrence, specializing in residential and commercial brokerage and development.

McGrew served as president of the Kansas Association of Realtors in 1998, and he was named state “Realtor of the Year” by his peers in 2000. At the local level, McGrew served in numerous capacities at the Lawrence Board of Realtors, including secretary in 1991. He was named “Realtor of the Year” by his Lawrence peers in 1995.

At the national level, McGrew has served on NAR’s board of directors since 1998.

McGrew is a graduate of Kansas University’s School of Business.

Nickie Taul, Katy Taul, Kalli Keen and Quinton Keen, all of Baldwin, had exhibits at the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show Jan. 10-14 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Katy Taul, placed third with a spring heifer calf, and fourth with a 3-year-old cow in the Brown Swiss division.

In the Holstein division, Nickie Taul received 12th place with her unfreshened 2-year-old cow. Kalli Keen placed third in the Winter Yearling class, second with her unfreshened 2-year-old cow, first in the senior 2-year-old cow class and first for an aged cow.

Kalli Keen and her aged cow, Bar-Lee Jet Wilma, received reserve senior champion and reserve grand champion awards. Quinton Keen placed second in the senior yearling class of the Jersey show.

In the Holstein World Junior All-American contest, Kalli Keen received honorable mention with her spring yearling heifer named Bluebae Lucky Charm.

Tonganoxie-based First State Bank & Trust has partnered with Charlotte, N.C.-based UVEST Financial Services to expand the scope of its current financial products and services offerings. Through this partnership with UVEST Financial Services, First State Bank & Trust will offer a full range of securities brokerage services, including financial planning, professional money management, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, annuities and more.

First State Bank & Trust also announced the appointment of Steven Root, Tonganoxie, as investment representative for UVEST Financial Services. Root holds a series and securities license. Prior to joining UVEST, Root was a financial adviser with another securities firm.

County committee elections were recently conducted for the Farm Service Agency. Those elected for Jefferson County were Paul O’Trimble II, county committee; Don Hurd, first alternate; Mark Gantz, second alternate; and Bruce Berns, community member. Those elected for Douglas County were Mike Wintermantel, county committee; Jane Edmonds, first alternate; Raymond Hoover, second alternate; and Velma Flory, community member.

Coming events

The Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center will present a seminar “Implementing a Pull/Kanban Material System to Streamline Work Flow” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in Lenexa.

The seminar is designed to teach manufacturers how to design, test and implement an effective Pull system that streamlines production. Some of the topics: how a demand-based production system solves work flow problems, Kanban control techniques; and how to blend elements of a Pull system with your existing processes.

The seminar will be at the Enterprise Center of Johnson County, 8527 Bluejacket. The fee is $250 for a single registration and $225 each for groups of three or more. Lunch is provided. To register, call (888) 649-4333.
