Wet weather to continue through evening

If you’re heading off to a Tangerine Bowl watch party this afternoon, you might take an umbrella — light rain is expected through the evening in the Lawrence area.

“It’s just kind of a damp day,” said Matt Jacobs, 6News meteorologist.

By the 4:30 p.m. kickoff — KU will face North Carolina State in Orlando, Fla. — temperatures in Lawrence will be in the upper 40s, with light rain expected to continue.

“It will last through about midnight tonight and we could see some snowflakes mixed in this evening,” Jacobs said. “As far as any snow accumulations, I’m not expecting any.”

Jacobs predicted that Lawrence will get less than a half-inch of rain by the time it passes.

Tuesday morning’s low temperature will drop to 29, which could make the damp roads slick for early-morning travelers, he said.

“Tomorrow we get back to mostly sunny skies. It’s going to be kind of breezy. And the temperature is going to be 42, so it will be a little cooler than we’ve seen in the last couple of days,” he said.

The only white Christmas Lawrence will see will be the few remaining piles of snow left over from the Dec. 12-13 snowfall.

“It actually looks pretty nice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” Jacobs said.

Wednesday morning and Thursday morning will be cold, with temperatures in the lower 20s.

“The high on Wednesday is 44 degrees, with mostly sunny skies,” Jacobs said. “On Christmas, we’ll have a high of 49 and partly cloudy skies. On Friday, it looks really nice, with a high of 53.”
