Lubbock, Texas ? Alesha Robertson made the most of her first start.

She scored 18 points Sunday to help No. 4 Texas Tech beat No. 7 Stanford, 55-46, and set a school record for its best start. The Red Raiders (11-0) started the 1999-00 season with 10 consecutive wins.

Robertson, a freshman and Tech’s second-leading scorer, opened the game with two great defensive plays.

“Starting today was really special to me,” she said. “I was glad about how the first two minutes went because I got a couple of steals, and that gave me some confidence. It went good from there on out.”

Jametra Clark scored 11 points, and Jia Perkins added nine for Texas Tech. Kristen Newlin scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Suminski and Sebnem Kimyacioglu added eight each for the Cardinal.

Texas Tech never trailed, building its largest lead at 36-25 on a drive by Erin Grant early in the second half. Stanford (7-2) drew to 38-36 on a layup by Kelley Suminski with 10:31 left, but Tech pulled away.

The Red Raiders used a 15-2 run in a six-minute span that included three-pointers by Robertson and Natalie Ritchie and five points by Clark to lead 53-38 with 4:53 remaining.

Tech coach Marsha Sharp started Robertson and Cisti Greenwalt, hoping to offset some of the Cardinal’s power.

“I think one of the biggest strengths of this team is we have a lot of different looks and a lot of different matchups,” Sharp said. “We felt like there were some things we could do with the matchups that would be effective against Stanford.”

Norman, Okla. — Shyra Ely scored 17 points, and Shanna Zolman added 14 to keep Tennessee unbeaten through its most grueling road trip.

Tennessee (9-0) played its third game in 10 days and posted its second win over an unbeaten Top 15 team. It also defeated then-No. 6 Stanford and DePaul on the trip.

This game was played before a crowd of 12,080, the largest to watch a women’s basketball game in Oklahoma history.

Marshall 61, Texas A&M 56

College Station, Texas — Kim Griffin scored 13 points, and Marshall took advantage of free-throw opportunities in the final 42 seconds. Marshall (7-1) held Texas A&M (6-3) without a field goal for nearly nine minutes and without any points for six minutes in the second half and led 52-42 with 6:20 to play. Lynn Classen scored a game-high 16 points for Texas A&M. Janae Derrick added 12 points and five rebounds.

Baylor 85,

Eastern Michigan 70

San Juan, Puerto Rico — Sophia Young scored 19 points and Jessika Stratton added 18 as Baylor defeated Eastern Michigan in the San Juan Shootout. Stratton hit four three-pointers for the Bears (9-1).
