Morris Mat Gold: Amanda Morris of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned a gold medal in the girls division of the Arkansas City Takedown Club Invitational. Silver medals went to LJWC’s Desiree Housworth, Deidre Housworth and Katrina Hayes. Misty Hayes earned a bronze and Dottie Housworth a fourth place. In the novice division, Dylan Housworth and Hayes earned golds and Morris a silver.

  • City Soccer Family Honored: The Lemmon family of Lawrence was among four national finalists in a Soccer Family of the Year contest sponsored by Whirlpool and Tide. Dave and Melissa Lemmon and their six children were selected based on their dedication to sportsmanship, leadership, community and creativity of entry. The Lemmons won a washer, dryer and a year’s supply of laundry detergent.

  • McGarity Third: Brendan McGarity of Kansas School of Gymnastics finished third in the Class 5 all-around at the St. Nick Invitational Sunday in Olathe. In Class 6, KSG’s Landon Noll and Noel Fisher placed seventh and 11th respectively.

  • Youth Indoor Soccer: Registration deadline for the city’s youth indoor soccer leagues is Jan. 2. Information is available on the K-6 program at all city rec facilities and on the Web at www.lprd.org.

  • MAYB Tournaments: Deadline is Jan. 23 for entering teams in MAYB basketball tournaments for third through eighth grade boys and girls Feb. 7-8 at Sport 2 Sport. For information, call 843-4263.
