Iowa City, Iowa ? Kansas State needed just four minutes to create a long night for Iowa.

The 11th-ranked Wildcats bolted to an 18-2 lead with near-perfect execution and rolled past the Hawkeyes, 82-60, Friday night. Laurie Koehn hit three three-pointers to key the early burst, which left Iowa scrambling to catch up.

“We were moving the ball well, we were getting to spots,” Kansas State’s Megan Mahoney said. “We were getting people the shots that we expect to get on offense, the ones we work for in practice.

“That’s the kind of offense we want to execute for 40 minutes.”

The fast start enabled Kansas State (6-2) to survive repeated comeback attempts by Iowa (5-3). The Hawkeyes got within four points in the first half and stayed within striking distance much of the second half, but couldn’t put together a run to overtake the Wildcats, who made eight of their first nine shots and shot 58.8 percent for the game.

Kendra Wecker led Kansas State with 21 points and Koehn finished with 20, going 6-for-10 from three-point range. Nicole Ohlde and Claire Coggins added 10 points apiece for Kansas State, while Mahoney contributed 12 rebounds, nine points, eight assists and two blocks.

“We knew they were great shooters,” Iowa’s Jamie Cavey said. “We knew Laurie Koehn could shoot. Defensive intensity is something we need to do the next time we go out to play.”

Cavey led Iowa with 20 points and Jennie Lillis scored 16.

Nebraska 60, No. 13 Ohio State 55

Lincoln, Neb. — Keasha Cannon-Johnson’s three-pointer with 2:07 remaining put Nebraska (6-1) ahead for good.

Nebraska took a 24-23 halftime lead with an eight-point run sparked by six points from Chelsea Aubry.
