Don’t give up on pretty clothes

I have a question about fashion: When are we going to see some? Clothes today are ugly! I’ve had so many conversations with people who hate the choices in stores. We have no desire to look like Britney.

Oops, someone did it again — held up Britney Spears as the prime example of a fashion disaster. Of course you don’t want to look like her; smart 18-year-olds I know don’t care to, either. No worries: This fall, many designers are featuring clothing for grown-ups — tweeds, structured corduroy and other classy looks. Check out Isaac Mizrahi’s new collection at Target — especially the suede skirts ($39.99) and corduroy pants ($24.99) — and lines from Marc Jacobs to Max Mara to Miu Miu. The trend will continue in spring; the collections that just wrapped in New York were all about pretty (feminine dresses, colors and glamour), not grungy. So don’t despair — there’s always more out there.
