Samuel and Stephanie Sheafer, Eudora, announce the birth of a daughter, Genesis Rai Sheafer, born Aug. 8, 2003, at KU Med.

She has a sister Samantha, 8, and two brothers, Kevin, 6, and Cael, 16 months.

The Putnam family of Perry have qualified to be host to Christina Gollmer, a student from Germany who will attend Perry-Lecompton High School for the 2003-2004 school year.

The Old West Lawrence Association Applause Committee has recognized five homes as a part of its ongoing program to honor neighbors for their aesthetic contributions to the OWL neighborhood.

These projects include a new front porch at 730 Maine, a spruced-up home and back yard at 809 Ala., a garden at 708 Miss., a new front porch, entry and sidewalk steps at 640 Ala., and flower gardens at 745 Tenn.
