Alberta Louise Swearingen

? Services for Alberta Louise Swearingen, 95, Horton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton. Burial will be in Horton Cemetery.

Mrs. Swearingen died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Highland Care Center.

She was born May 29, 1908, in Holton, the daughter of Thomas and Lillie (Williams) Kinkade.

She graduated from Horton High School in 1926 and attended College of Emporia for a year, then graduated from Stricklen Business College in Topeka with a contromiter operator degree.

Mrs. Swearingen was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for Haucks Grocery and later the city of Horton. She became city clerk and then director of Arbor Knoll Homes in Horton.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was church deacon, and First Christian Church, where she was elder and treasurer. She was a charter member and past president of Women’s Chamber of Commerce and a member of History and Literature Club, Delphian Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Horton Library Board, all in Horton.

She married Roger O. Swearingen on Nov. 11, 1933, in Horton. He died July 5, 1963.

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Lehew, Horton; a son, Thomas Swearingen, Lawrence; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

A granddaughter died earlier.

Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
