Phoenix ? Tamicha Jackson had 20 points and Anna DeForge 19 as the Phoenix Mercury defeated the Seattle Storm, 64-50, Friday night.

The Mercury snapped a three-game losing streak and held the Storm to their lowest point total of the season. Seattle scored 56 May 24 against San Antonio.

Seattle (16-13), which fell back into a tie for third in the Western Conference with Minnesota, missed 13 shots in a row twice in the second half and made just 6-of-36 shots, scoring a season-low 14 points in the half.

Phoenix (7-23) went on a 20-2 run during the Seattle drought, making half its shots in the second half, in a 38-14 advantage.

Lauren Jackson, the league leader in points with 21.6 per game and fourth in rebounds at 8.9, just missed a double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds. But she was 6-of-18 from the field and missed six layups in a row at one point. She came into the game having had seven consecutive double-doubles, tying a league mark set twice by Los Angeles’ Lisa Leslie.

Sue Bird scored 14 points, 12 in the first half, for Seattle, which had beaten the Mercury in their first three meetings this season. Bird missed eight of 12 shots.

Seattle has lost five straight on the road but won two of four overall.

Monarchs 75, Shock 63

Sacramento, Calif. — Tangela Smith had 20 points and eight rebounds to lead Sacramento.

The win moves the Monarchs (16-14) into a tie for the fourth and final Western Conference playoff slot with Minnesota.

Swin Cash led Detroit (21-9) with 19 points while Cheryl Ford had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Shock, who still need one more win to clinch the Eastern Conference title.
