Sting stomp Liberty

? Rushia Brown scored 14 points, and Andrea Stinson added 13 as the Charlotte Sting pulled away to beat the New York Liberty, 65-54, Thursday night.

Brown, who had just two points in the past two games, helped Charlotte (15-12) retain sole possession of second place in the WNBA’s Eastern Conference.

Dawn Staley added 12 points for the Sting.

Vickie Johnson scored 16 points, Tari Phillips 13 and Tamika Whitmore 12 for New York (11-14), which lost its ninth straight road game and fell to sixth place in the East.

Brown scored on a post move with 3:04 left to stop a Liberty rally and keep Charlotte ahead 54-46.

The Liberty committed 15 turnovers and were outrebounded 33-20 while seeing their two-game winning streak snapped.

Comets 68, Fever 55

Indianapolis — Sheryl Swoopes scored 16 points, Michelle Snow added 14, and Tina Thompson had 13 as Houston beat Indiana.

Tamika Catchings had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Fever, while Natalie Williams had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Monarchs 86, Silver Stars 61

San Antonio — DeMya Walker and Ruthie Bolton each scored 13 points and Sacramento kept its playoff hopes alive. Gwen Jackson scored 15 points for San Antonio, which lost its third straight game and was only 21-for-67 from the field.
