Olathe East lineman commits to KU

Olathe East lineman Todd Haselhorst made an oral commitment Thursday to play football for Kansas University, rivals.com reported.

Haselhorst, a 6-foot-4, 284-pounder, is the 33rd-ranked guard in the nation. He’s the second in-state lineman to make a commitment to KU this summer. Silver Lake’s Scott Haverkamp (6-4, 280) picked Kansas last month after attending two of the Jayhawks’ camps.

Haselhorst visited Kansas State Monday before deciding on Mark Mangino’s KU program.

“I think coach Mangino is doing a good job, and the program is on the rise,” Haselhorst told rivals.com Thursday night. “I wanted to be a part of an up-and-coming program. I have known the coaches for two years, and over time they have become like a family.”

Haselhorst, who plays offensive and defensive line for Olathe East, was a first team all-state and all-metro pick as a junior. He said the Jayhawks recruited him to play offense.
