? An Independence man was charged Wednesday in the death of a man who was stabbed with an ice pick in rural Camden County.

Joseph Paul Watson, 32, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Thomas Lipp, 45, of Kansas City, Kan.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Department said Lipp was killed with an ice pick after a confrontation with Watson at a trailer in a rural area near Edwards.

According to court records, the owner of the property, Deborah Hutchins, told investigators that she, her son, and Watson had gone to the property because Lipp, who was her former boyfriend, was supposed to be moving out of one of her trailers on the property.

Watson told authorities that Lipp came to the trailer where the group was visiting with a large rock in is hand. Watson allegedly stabbed Lipp twice in the chest after a confrontation at the trailer door, according to court records.

An autopsy indicated that Lipp died of a stab wound to the pulmonary artery, aorta and left lung.
