Mizzou unveils ticket plan for hoops

? Fans wishing to sit courtside at the University of Missouri’s new arena for the 2004-05 basketball season will pay more than $30,000 a seat, an increase of 382 percent from this season.

The university announced its new seating and pricing chart for the $75 million arena, which will open in November 2004. The unnamed arena will seat about 15,000, compared with 13,611 at Hearnes.

While the season-ticket prices — about $460 for the closest sections — will remain about the same, donations required to secure a prime seat have risen. The priciest seats will be in Area 1, which will have 52 courtside seats.

To buy one season-ticket there, fans must make a one-time donation of $25,000 (which can be spread over five years) to the Champions For Life campaign and an annual donation of $5,000 to the Tiger Scholarship Fund.

Area 2, which will include 1,000 club seats directly behind Area 1, will be split into two sections and will require a $25,000 one-time donation with a $2,500 yearly donation. Area 3 will require a $1,000 one-time donation and a $2,000 yearly donation.

Areas 1-3 also will have access to a private club, which probably will serve alcohol despite Missouri’s dry-campus policy, according to MU assistant director of media relations Sam Fleury.

The equivalent to Area 1 at Hearnes will cost about $460 with a $7,500 donation this season. The club seats behind it cost the same with a $2,500 donation.

Missouri is joining a national trend in which some schools, particularly those with successful collegiate programs, are asking their fans to pay one-time seat fees.

The $75 million arena is being funded with a $25 million donation from Bill and Nancy Laurie, $15 million from the scholarship fund and $35 million in bonds issued by the state of Missouri.
