Jayhawks to make debut today in football

After two days of practicing under wraps, Kansas University’s football team will be available for public scrutiny for the first time this morning and again Thursday morning.

Practices today and Thursday will begin at 8:20 a.m. at the field behind Anschutz Sports Pavilion and end around 10:30 a.m. The previously-announced starting time of 9:30 a.m. was moved up Tuesday by coach Mark Mangino.

After Thursday, the next open practice will be Sunday at the practice field. That session has been designated as Kids Day, and every child accompanied by an adult will be able to watch the last half hour of practice. Gates will open at 4 p.m. KU players and coaches will be available for autographs after that workout.

The Jayhawks’ only other public appearance this week will be Friday afternoon. The annual Media Day is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

Under NCAA rules, the Jayhawks only can practice once a day through Friday.

Two-a-days will begin Saturday and both those sessions will be closed to the public and media.

KU offensive line coach Ed Warinner spent the last three seasons at Air Force.

According to rivals.com, Thompson would have started for the Falcons this fall.
