Monk to speak about his book, imprisonment survival experiences

Tibetan monk Palden Gyatso, who survived 33 years of imprisonment by Chinese authorities for his resistance activities, is visiting Lawrence and the Kansas City area this week. He will speak at 2 p.m. today at the South Park gazebo as part of “Global Awareness Week,” sponsored by the Kansas University Greens, a student organization.

Gyatso also will speak at 6 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

He will talk about his experience and his 1997 book, “The Autobiography of a Tibetan Monk.”

The events are free and open to the public.
