With the current tax return season coming to a close, several new books already are looking ahead to next year.

It’s never too early to start covering your 2003 tax bases. If you’d like to get a jump on next year’s return, you might consult one of the following titles.

  • “The Don’t Sweat Guide to Taxes” by Richard Carlson, Hyperion, 2003 ($10.95). It’s a handy guide on a variety of tax topics, including itemizing, IRAs and property taxes.

  • “The Ernst & Young Tax Saver’s Guide, 2003” by Ernst & Young LLP editor, John Wiley & Sons Inc., 2002 ($16.95). It offers advice on how to navigate new tax laws with tax saver and organizer tips.
  • “How to Pay Zero Taxes, 2003” by Jeff A. Schnepper, McGraw-Hill, 2002 ($15.95). This book discusses retirement saving tax issues, deductions and capital gains rules.
