Center’s party celebrates residents older than 90

Six people in their 90s received a special tribute Sunday at Vermont Towers, 1101 Vt., where they are residents.

About 40 residents, friends and relatives gathered in the center’s community room for the celebration. They drank punch, ate cookies and sang songs.

Eva Fauble, above, receives flowers from great-granddaughter Jessie Alexander, Overland Park, who traveled with other family members to attend the festivities. Fauble, the oldest resident, is 96.

Community: Downtown AIDS Walk to benefit area counties

The 13th annual Douglas County AIDS Walk in downtown Lawrence is set for April 26.

Registration will be at the gazebo in South Park, 12th and Massachusetts streets. The 5K walk starts at 10 a.m. on a route that goes down Massachusetts Street and through west and east Lawrence before ending at South Park.

The goal of this year’s walk is to raise $10,000. The organization’s mission is to provide education and prevention programs and to offer client services for people and families grappling with HIV and AIDS in Douglas, Jefferson and Franklin counties.

T-shirts will be provided to the first 175 walkers bringing in at least $35 in pledges.
