Ethel Mayhew

Services for Ethel Mayhew, 89, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Plainville. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery.

Mrs. Mayhew died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in Lawrence.

She was born Feb. 14, 1914, in rural Stockton, the daughter of William and Catherine (Bigge) Saunders. She received her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Fort Hays State University.

Mrs. Mayhew taught in Union 5 Country School, West Plainville Country School, Zurich School and finally in Plainville schools. She was a member of Plainville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Plainville Housing Authority Board, Alpha Beta and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She married Roy Mayhew on Sept. 30, 1936, in Stockton. He died earlier.

Survivors include a son, Bill, Lawrence; a brother, Gordon Bigge, Casper, Wyo.; three sisters, Wilma Royer, Plattsmouth, Neb., Esther Cross, Sylvan Grove, and Ruby Schmitt, Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville.
