Heartland Church continues series

Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt., continues “Show Me the Way,” at the 11 a.m. Sunday services. The series explores the spiritual reasons behind the war on terrorism and the conflict between good and evil in the world.

Trinity Lutheran to have guest preacher

The Rev. Shawn Norris, pastor of the Lutheran campus ministry at Kansas University, will be guest preacher at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

A “Ministry Fair,” featuring displays and information on the various groups and service opportunities at Trinity Lutheran, will take place at 9:45 a.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. All committees and activities will have tables displaying the programs and projects they sponsor throughout the year, along with a chance for people to volunteer for these projects.

“Ministry Explorations: Opportunities for Doing God’s Work,” begins its series of meetings at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room of the church. The group will use the “Network” materials from Willow Creek Community Church to discover gifts, talents and passions for ministries in the church, family, community and workplace.

Unity Church reverend to complete exploration

The Rev. Sherry Schultz will complete her exploration of the Enneagram, a tool for self discovery, at the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane.

St. Margaret’s to have potluck breakfast

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will celebrate with a “Foyer Groups Potluck Breakfast” from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today.

Sunday is “Bring-a-Friend Sunday.” The children will have special participation at the 9 a.m. service. Volunteer firemen will join the fifth- and sixth-grade Sunday school class. A new group for the 18-year-old plus age group will meet for a 6 p.m. meal on Thursday at the church.

First Presbyterian to offer screening

First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will offer educational and screening opportunities for the community during the 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. services on Sunday in conjunction with the National Mental Health Awareness Month. Pastor Jim Dunkin will open a four-week discussion on mental health awareness and provide some tools for getting out of an unhealthy cycle. Dunkin’s sermon is entitled “A Beautiful Mind.”

Unitarian Fellowship to have guest speaker

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will have Victor Bailey of Kansas University lecture on “The Churchill of Pre-WWII,” speak at the 10:30 a.m. service. For more information, call 842-3339.

Jewish Center dedicates library

The Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive, on Friday dedicated its library in memory of Mary Paretzky. She was the librarian in the children’s room at the public library for many years.

Trinity Episcopal Church to celebrate ministries

Sunday is a day of celebration of ministries at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt. Information about the activities and ministries will be available at Trinity.
