The Lawrence 299er’s Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 18. The game was stratified and used a Howell movement. Harriet Olson and Artie Shaw finished first in A and B. John Gilbert and Judy Bevan took second place in A and B. Helen Huffman and Bob Huffman placed third in A. Dick Moore and Bobbi McCorkle finished first in C. Don Brennaman directed the game.

The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 20. The game was stratified and used a Mitchell movement. North-South winners were Patt Radford and Sally Taylor in A, followed by Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough. Chris Lane and Shirley Reese finished third in A and first in B. Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges placed second in B. Mary Beth Treece and Gary Joyce finished first in C. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley finished first in East-West A, B and C. Harry Shaffer and Jim Gunn finished second in A. Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell were third in A and second in B and C. Don Brennaman directed the game.

The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s game Monday was stratified, used a Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver. There were 11 tables of players.

North-South winners were Cathy Blumenfeld and Micheal Blumenfeld, followed by Jerry Sloan and Patt Radford. Chris Lane and Shirley Reese placed third, followed by Harry Shaffer and James Gunn. Martie Hartman and Pat Burgstahler placed second in the C session, followed by Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton.

East-West winners were Paul Heitzman and Donna Johnson, followed by David Rhea and Christie Thomas. Lois Clark and Betty Collier were third in A and first in B and C. Fourth place went to Virginia Seaver and Klee Zaricky, while Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee placed fifth in A and second in B.

Lawrence Music Club members will play host to the Northeast District meeting Oct. 5 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt. Members will gather at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and rolls. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Pianist Elaine de San Miguel will perform. Cost of the luncheon is $10.

The club’s Fall Luncheon and first meeting will be at noon Oct. 10 at the home of Jessie Branson. Lunch will be served by the board members.

Random Harmony, a barbershop quartet from Kansas University, will provide the program.

The University Bridge Club announces winners of its Sept. 14 game, which was given by Karmi and Edna Galle.

Pink winners were Hazel Stellmacher, first; Freddie Nelson, second; Florence McNicoll, third; Mildred Hoffman, fourth; and Gini Wigington, fifth.

Blue winners were Howard Stoltenberg, first; Alice Akins, second; Henry Wigington, third; Warren Lesh, fourth; and Roy Cropp, fifth.

The Betty Washington chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Sept. 14 at the First Baptist Church. Deborah Dandridge, an archivist who oversees the African-American collections and the Kansas collection at Kansas University’s Kenneth Spencer Research Library, gave a presentation.

A mayoral proclamation was read declaring the week of Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in the city of Lawrence.

Nancy Copp, Laura Palmer, Hazel Schaake, Jane Sloop and Susan Sloop were guests.

Regent Annie Merriam informed the chapter it had been presented with a Level 2 Achievement Award for chapter accomplishments. The announcement was made at the district meeting Sept. 14 in Salina.
