Fleisher ties record

Senior golfer shoots 10-under 60

? Bruce Fleisher birdied 10 of his first 14 holes Friday for a 10-under-par 60, tying the record for the lowest 18-hole score in Senior PGA Tour history in the first round of the RJR Championship.

He is three strokes ahead of Mike McCullough, who birdied the last four holes for a 7-under 63.

Fleisher lost his bid to become the first senior golfer to shoot 59 when his first chip shot from the left of the green on the par-5 finishing hole came up short of the green. His second attempt went 3 feet past the cup, and he settled for par.

“I was having so much fun,” said Fleisher, who broke the Tanglewood Park course record of 62, which was held by four other seniors. “I think a truck could have run over me and it wouldn’t have hurt me. I was kind of walking on air.”

Six golfers have shot 59 in tournament play three on the PGA Tour, two on the Buy.com Tour and one on the LPGA Tour.
