Baker soccer team posts shutout

Baldwin Eugenia Rogers scored a hat trick Wednesday in Baker University’s 9-0 soccer victory against Central Methodist College.

Jessica Beck scored two goals for Baker, and Amy Freedman had a goal and four assists. Jen Weigel, Meghan Braun and Alex Williams added one goal each for the Wildcats, who improved to 3-0. Free State High graduate Kristin Bock also had an assist.

Goaltenders Kelli Leach and Emily Brumit combined on the shutout.

Baker will play host to Hannibal-LaGrange at 4 p.m. Friday.

DeSoto RB nominated for All-American game

Michael Allen, DeSoto High senior, has been nominated to play in the third annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Allen, who has rushed for more than 2,500 yards during the past two seasons, is one of 400 players nominated. Tom Lemming, a prep football analyst, will choose the final 78 players this fall.
