Screwdriver rampage leads to arrest

? A suburban Kansas City man went on an inexplicable rampage with a screwdriver and injured two people before he was arrested, authorities said.

The 22-year-old Overland Park man remained jailed Saturday on $50,000 bond. A judge on Friday ruled that there was probable cause to hold him on suspicion of aggravated battery, attempted felony theft and misdemeanor battery.

Paola Deputy Police Chief Don Poore said the man picked up a stranger in Kansas City, Kan., Thursday morning and drove to Paola. A witness saw the man and his passenger fighting in the car late that morning at Hillsdale Lake, authorities said. The passenger ran out with stab wounds on his hand, and the driver sped off.

Deputies said the Overland Park man then tried to steal a car from a driveway. When he couldn’t start the car, they said, he knocked at the house and stabbed a 34-year-old woman who answered the door.

When the woman’s 16-year-old daughter came to her aid, the man turned on her. They broke free, and were later treated at the scene.

The man ran into the woods, deputies said, where he was arrested a short time later.
