Strikers Go 1-2: Lawrence Strikers U-18 soccer went 1-2 in the Midwest All-Girls Tournament last weekend at Heritage Park in Olathe. The Strikers beat KC Omega, 4-2, behind Rebekah Berkley’s three goals. Emilie Humbarger also scored and Abby Schuh, playing goalkeeper for the first time, had seven saves.

Orchards No. 8 Aces: The No. 8 hole at Orchards Golf Course surrendered a pair of hole-in-ones during the Labor Day weekend. On Sunday, Carol Mulvenon of Lawrence used an eight-iron for an 82-yard ace with Chris Mulvenon as the witness. On Monday, Ben Smith of Lawrence used a wedge for a 98-yard ace. Witnesses were Sarah Smith, Cyrus Beedles and Bill Beedles.

LYABA Sign-Ups: Lawrence Young American Bowling Alliance leagues will begin Saturday at Royal Crest Lanes. Interested bowlers can sign up prior to league play ages 11-under at 8:15 a.m. and ages 12-21 at 9 a.m. Bumper bowling is available for youths ages seven and under. For information, call 842-1234.

Grosdidier JGC Champ: Mike Grosdidier fired a 71 and captured last Sunday’s Jayhawk golf club tournament at Alvamar, beating Mike Naegele by six strokes, who came in with a 77. Roger Gemeinhardt and Van Reichert both shot 78s to share third place. In net, Steve Crawford was low with a 71. Randy Gebhards and Keith Wallace were next with 74s.

City Team U-10 Champion: The Lawrence Stars won the Sport 2 Sport U-10 baseball tournament last Sunday. The Stars outscored their opponents, 44-5. Team members are Bobby Hall, Hayden Emerson, Nick Hassig, Seth Dirks-Ham, Coulter Vestal, Chase McElhaney, Matt Montes de Oca, Adam Petz and Ben Harms. Coaches are Brent Meyers and Bob Emerson.

Leawood 5K: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the men’s ages 70-74 division of the Leawood Labor Day 5K. In the women’s division, Lawrence’s Molly Wood and Dee Boeck earned third-place finishes in age-group competition.
