The Youth Volunteer Council of Douglas County needs members to help with service projects. Volunteers must be between the ages of 5 and 18. The group has 17 active members and would like to increase the number to 23 or 30. Meetings are once a week, and members discuss what service projects are coming up.

The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the upper portion of Dad Perry Park. Upcoming events include The Day of Caring on Sept. 14 and painting the walls at the United Way. The Lawrence Chapter of the Youth Center is called Helping Out in the Lawrence Area (HOLA), and chapters are starting in Baldwin and Eudora. To get involved, call Matt or come to a meeting. For more information, visit the Web site at www.geocities.com/yvckansas.

The Youth Volunteer Council is sponsored by the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, which is a service provided by the United Way of Douglas County.
