Calvary Temple Assembly of God

Kent and Leslie Linneweh, new missionaries to the Netherlands, will speak 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace.

The Linnewehs have served as youth pastors and worship leaders at St. Joseph, Mo., at the Assembly of God church.

Cornerstone Southern Baptist

A Fall Festival of Fun for Children will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, 802 W. 22nd St. Terrace.

The event, which is free and open to the community, will feature booths with games, cotton candy, hot dogs and other activities.

First Church of the Nazarene

First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road, will hold Children’s Caravans, a Christian scouting program, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays for children age 4 through sixth grade.

Teen Club Green Acres meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Four adult Bible classes are also available at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. There are education classes for all ages held at 9 a.m. Sundays. Child care is always available for children up to three years old.

First Christian

First Christian Church’s annual chicken-and-noodle dinner, with homemade noodles and pies, will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church, 1000 Ky.

There will also be a mini bazaar featuring crafts, food and other items. The bazaar will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Freewill donations of $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10 will be accepted.

First United Methodist

First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will hold a pumpkin carving contest at 5 p.m. today at FUMC’s west campus.

People attending should bring a pumpkin, carving tools and a lawn chair.

Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research

The Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research will present a lecture on “The Mysteries of God” from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.

The guest speaker will be Rabbi Scott White of the Lawrence Jewish Community Center.

The institute is a nonprofit, non-denominational religious and scientific research organization. A branch school of the institute was established in Topeka in 2000.

The 39th annual Blintz Brunch will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive.

Several kinds of hot blintzes will be served, and frozen blintzes will be available for purchase, along with baked ethnic goods and Israeli gifts.

Tickets, which cost $6.50, are good for one serving of blintzes and a drink, or they can be redeemed for baked goods.

Ninth Street Baptist

Ninth Street Baptist Church, 847 Ohio, will have its church anniversary program at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

Sister Theresa Carter will be the speaker.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal

The children of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will be involved in special stewardship activities during the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday worship services.

The New Children’s Choir will lead the singing during the 9 a.m. service. An in-gathering of pledges and talents will take place during all services: 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The 18-30 group will meet for supper, fellowship, Bible study and prayer at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Stull United Methodist

The 12th annual Stull United Methodist Church fund-raiser will be Nov. 2, with pancakes and sausages served from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A bake sale will begin at 7 a.m., with unsold items auctioned off at 1 p.m.

There will be a silent auction at 12:30 p.m. for a 40-inch by 48-inch Christmas quilt and special gift baskets.

Proceeds will go toward refurbishing a stained-glass window in the church’s sanctuary.

Trinity Episcopal

The Rev. Jonathon Jensen will preach and celebrate during the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services. Phoebe Myers will be the soloist with the Chorister Choir during the 10:30 a.m. service.

Chris Carter, headmaster of Bishop Seabury Academy, will discuss the latest developments at the school during the adult forum at 9:30 a.m.

Trinity Lutheran

A confirmation for five young people will be at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

Prior to the service, a reception will honor the confirmands and their families at 9:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

Confirmands are: Chelse Boisen, Thad Damman, Whitney Juneau, Nikki Riggins and Alan Sneegas.

After the 11 a.m. service, a farewell party will honor John Salveson, the church’s director of worship and music, who has accepted a position in Hopkins, Minn.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

William Worley of the Kansas City Regional History Institute at the University of Missouri-Kansas City will give a talk titled “Isaac McCoy and the State for Indians” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

West Side Presbyterian

Three group meetings are scheduled to present plans for 2003 to members of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

Group No. 1 will meet at noon Sunday. A light lunch will be provided after the worship services. Group No. 2 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. A dessert will be served. Group No. 3 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a dessert being served.

All church members should sign up for one of these informational meetings. A calling team will contact those who have not made a reservation. For those unable to attend one of the three meetings, an appointment can be made for a home visit.

Members of the Mission and Stewardship Committee, together with the current and newly elected Session members and deacons, will be making the calls.
