Area Roundup: Chargers rip Perry, 34-13

Oshel, Rogers help Wellsville win, 32-20

? Bryan Ganger scored a pair of running touchdowns and Jake Marquart returned a punt 84 yards for another TD, helping Santa Fe Trail beat up Perry-Lecompton, 34-13, in district football on Friday at SFT.

“It seemed like it was a closer score,” SFT coach Bob Von Stein said. “We had some big plays to set some things up. We threw the ball so-so. As far as being able to march it, we didn’t have a strong running game.”

Ganger scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards. Jay Shively led the Chargers with 97 rushing yards on nine carries; he had 46 yards on one TD run.

Shane Miles completed nine of 17 passes for 87 yards and had a 26-yard rushing TD.

Santa Fe Trail improved to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the district and will play host to Topeka Hayden (2-0 in district) on Thursday.

“We’d like to make it a three-way tie by beating Hayden,” Von Stein said.

Wellsville Ryan Oshel completed five of nine passes for 179 yards and Matt Rogers hauled in four of those passes for 122 yards, helping Wellsville remain undefeated in district.

“The win tonight was big for us,” WHS coach Bill Oshel said. “We’re starting to get on a roll a little bit. Each and every game we’re getting kids back, getting healthy, and hoping we can keep building.”

Jayhawk-Linn and Wellsville traded scores early, but the Eagles pulled away with an 18-point fourth quarter.

“Early in the game, we didn’t have much of a running game,” Bill Oshel said. “I kept trying to force that. I was getting real stubborn. Throwing a few passes might have pulled their defensive backs off.”
