Board members to consider schools’ natural gas contract

Bottom Line

The board will be asked to approve a one-year agreement with Cornerstone Energy Inc. for transportation of natural gas to school buildings in the district.

For five years, the district has bought natural gas from Energy One Ventures, a subsidiary of Aquila. Energy One was sold to Cornerstone in September, and the district now buys from Cornerstone.

Background

The price of natural gas under the new contract with Cornerstone will be about 19 percent more than last year’s deal with Energy One.

Futures analysts are projecting that natural gas prices could increase 45 percent this winter because of political and production issues.
