Lake Henry to receive 1,500 trout

Kansas trout season began last Tuesday and will continue through next April 15.

In this area, Lake Henry in Clinton State Park will be stocked with 1,500 trout during the next two months.

Stockings of 500 trout apiece are scheduled between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14 with 1,000 more slated to be placed during December. No stocking is planned for January.

Anyone fishing for trout in Kansas must purchase a $10.50 trout stamp. This includes anglers not required to have a fishing license.

The stamp is valid for the current calendar year, so stamps purchased last winter or early spring are valid through Dec. 31, 2002.

Residents 16 through 64 years old and nonresidents 16 years and older must also have a valid fishing license.

Some local governments in areas such as Topeka and Kansas City have their own trout stocking programs. Many of these require a fee, but the state permit is not required.

The daily creel limit is five trout, and the possession limit is 15.
